Geologic Annotated Aerial Photos Overview
Section Summary
Accessible from the selection map, this section has links to annotated oblique
aerial photos of select areas throughout the Colorado Plateau (Washington County for now). Each aerial photo
will have the major geologic formations labeled according to the nomenclature shown below (under construction).
At the moment we have only aerial photos for the southwestern portion of Utah, but we will add more as we
get them.
Identify Formations
The color oblique aerial photos should be particularly helpful for identifying major formations
throughout a certain area. Many of the aerial photos will also be accessible through a link found on the
corresponding "stratigraphic columns" section.
Help us Build the Database
We have tried to acquire photos which show good geologic exposures on a regional level, but finding free
quality aerial photos has proven difficult, so those who would like us to annotate and post their aerial
photos in order to help others learn the Colorado Plateau's geology can send them here.
Otherwise, everyone will have to wait until I find a friend with a pilots' license and can fly all over the
Colorado Plateau taking quality geology pictures :)
